Mr. Charles Taylor freed from pedophile charges
Initially, a district court in Finland pronounced Mr. Taylor innocent of all charges. In 2003, an appeal court reversed the verdict. Then, the Supreme Court of Finland refused to re-examine his case, despite the opposite verdicts of the two lower courts.
In 2004, Mr. Taylor's lawyer logded an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights. In 2009, the European Court ruled in favor of Mr. Taylor, noting that he had not received a fair trial.
As a result, in 2010, Finland’s Supreme Court revoked the appeal court’s verdict and returned the case for re-evaluation to the appeal court. In January 2011, the new district prosecutor withdrew the original prosecutor's complaint to the appeal court, which meant that the Republic of Finland accepted the district court’s verdict in which all charges against Mr. Taylor were dropped.
Mr. Taylor plans to write a book about his years of fighting for justice.
